Not everyone knows this, but our story began all the way back in May 2019 at Northern Trust. Dave, in his very official role, had to chase Ilona for a monthly report. With the deadline looming, he sent her a polite reminder… to which she replied (in true Ilona fashion): “I KNOW MY DEADLINES.” Poor Dave — completely shut down before he even knew he was trying.

And so, the “love story” began… well, sort of… It took only four short years (what’s a little patience in love?) before we finally had our first date on April 19th, 2023. From that very first evening, it felt different. We realized we shared so much: a deep love for animals, the importance of family and friends, the pride we take in our Polish and Irish roots, and our very firm stance on having zero tolerance for nonsense (Ilona’s favorite phrase). Add in a shared fascination with crime series and serial killers, and we knew we’d found something special – Ilona has a particular interest in suitcase killers, which is why Dave now whisks the luggage to the basement the minute we return from holiday, just to be safe 🥰 It didn’t take long before Dave began the very subtle process of moving in — one Liverpool jersey at a time.

And while our relationship hasn’t been without its ups and downs — Dave’s relaxed “go with the flow” attitude vs. Ilona’s precise and procedural approach – we’ve learned to laugh, compromise, and grow. Somewhere along the way, Dave also discovered the ultimate secret to happiness: there is only one correct way forward… Ilona’s way. 😉

Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing. Every moment —the silly ones, the challenging ones, the everyday ones — has brought us closer and made us stronger. What started with a difficult e-mail exchange has turned into a partnership full of laughter, love, and a future we can’t wait to build together. On May 23rd, 2026, we’re so excited to celebrate that future with all of you, our favorite people. Thank you for being part of the next chapter in what truly has been the best adventure of our lives!
